Censor 2021 Movie Review of a British Horror

A cunning and discreetly disrupting thrill ride about a British film censor during the 1980s who starts to think she is seeing her long-missing sister in an unpleasant horror movie or a well-constructed thriller. What starts as a novel kind of secret story progressively develops into a freaky piece of mental repulsiveness.

In the Censor 2021 Movie Review, I do not want to add any specific details that would act as a spoiler but I do want to share some insight as to what you can expect from the film.

First I would say that Censor is not a horror movie, it’s not a gore flick or even a slasher. It’s more like a Thriller.

I feel that the creators may have tried to build up a Giallo-type film, but even with the build-up it really did not execute any sort of real climax. nor does it relate well with the 80s (time period) the film is set in.

To the film’s defence it is very focused on film art and playing on colors which I found to be beautiful eye candy to the point of it being trippy, but that’s really the only good thing that I found the film to offer me as the viewer as the imagery alone did not save the film but kudos to them on this aspect.

I found the movie to feel like a clone of the movie Evil Ed except changed a little bit, maybe if you watched Evil Ed first you would find this relation in the film.

The story is not complex or deep, in fact, the film is very short with a generic feeling, the Censor 2021 Movie Review finds that there’s a little amount of acting accompanied by the lack of depth and details to the point you lose interest and wonder what you are watching.

There is no standout supporting characters, The lead did have a bit of detail but not enough. The ending of Censor is very predictable anyone could guess it.

Bottom Line Censor isn’t the worst horror film, it just isn’t engaging, The movie never tries to display anything other than the beautiful visuals, it’s very nice eye candy but that’s all it is.

Summary: Film censor Enid takes pride in her meticulous work, guarding unsuspecting audiences against the deleterious effects of watching the gore-filled decapitations and eye-gouging she pores over. Her sense of duty to protect is amplified by guilt over her inability to recall details of the long-ago disappearance of her sister, recently declared dead in absentia. When Enid is assigned to review a disturbing film from the archive that echoes her hazy childhood memories, she begins to unravel how this eerie work might be tied to her past.
