THE MOTHMAN TAPES is a brand-new documentary style horror film that explores the 1987 demise of three best friends who set out on a road trip for Point Pleasant, West Virginia, in pursuit of the entity that already had tormented the region two decades prior. THE MOTHMAN TAPES comes from 1289 Films’ Jesse P. Pollack and Dan Jones, the critically acclaimed directors of 2021’s Satanic Panic-fueled true crime documentary, THE ACID KING.
Wild Eye Releasing, the independent horror curators, recently acquired distribution rights to the film and will use period-correct vintage equipment to film the 1987 segments on location at the original Mothman sighting points in Point Pleasant. This will give the film an authentic look that is often lacking in the modern found footage genre.
Present-day interviews with loved ones of the missing three, paranormal investigators, independent researchers, and law enforcement professionals will be the focus of the documentary’s present-day segments. It will be easier for them to pull this off because of their past expertise filming true crime documentaries.
Actors Rob Romaniello, John Palumbo, and Christian Elms will appear in THE MOTHMAN TAPES, as will underground cinema veteran Jim VanBebber, who will play a significant part (DEADBEAT AT DAWN, THE MANSON FAMILY, MY SWEET SATAN).
Principal photography is scheduled to begin in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, in the autumn, thanks to a crowdsourcing campaign.
