‘Abandoned’ follows Sara (Emma Roberts), Alex (John Gallagher Jr.) and their baby boy as they relocate into a secluded farmhouse with a dark, sad history,’ reads the description. It becomes clear that the family’s home has a dark history that puts the mother’s well-being and the safety of her newborn boy in danger. Emma Roberts (American Horror Story, Nerve), John Gallagher Jr. (Peppermint), and Michael Shannon (Heart of Champions) feature in Spencer Squire’s film, which is directed by Squire.
While the context of the Abandoned dialogue is unknown, it wonderfully sets the tone for the film’s terrible tone. With its gloomy lighting, scary soundtrack, and grounded performances by Roberts and Shannon, the clip reflects the film’s disturbing mood. Except for the faint musical soundtrack, the scant usage of background noise creates a scary backdrop that allows the performers to shine.
Sara (Emma Roberts), her husband Alex (John Gallagher Jr.), and their infant baby son relocate into a lovely and rural farmhouse in the hopes of establishing a fresh life as a family there. They had no idea, however, that this property has a very dark and sad horror past tied to it. When the dark roots and origins of their new house are disclosed, Sara’s mental state deteriorates to the point of madness. It endangers not just Sara’s life, but also the safety of their son.
Spencer Squire directs Abandoned, which Erik Patterson and Jessica Scott wrote and co-wrote with him. Rated PG-13 due to some blood and gore as well as thematic elements and brief harsh language throughout the film.
