The sense of fear is intensifying. Scott Derrickson, the writer and director, along with his collaborator C. Robert Cargill, have shared some eerie news: they’ve finished filming The Black Phone 2. The gateway to the unknown has swung wide open.
Back in 2021, the first Black Phone surprised us all, pulling us into a dark tale adapted from Joe Hill’s short story collection. If you haven’t yet explored Hill’s haunting 20th Century Ghosts, it’s a perfect next read for those who love a good scare.
On a budget of just $16 million, the film managed to rake in more than $160 million globally, showing that a good scare can reach far beyond a simple, quiet room. Naturally, a sequel was bound to happen, and it’s set to hit theaters on October 17, 2025.
Derrickson first hinted at the sequel’s production starting on November 4th. Now, he shares the exciting news: “Black Phone 2 is in the can. I couldn’t be more thrilled about what we’ve filmed.” That’s a statement that raises goosebumps, teasing us with the horrors still to come.
Cargill, Derrickson’s partner in creating fear, joined in with a bit of intrigue: “And that’s a wrap! Black Phone 2 is done! Time to pack up, head home, and get ready for post! I’m really excited for everyone to see what we’ve been working on. Huge thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for three months of magic. Now we just have to wait for everyone to discover how we even managed to make a sequel.” The lingering question of how they did it leaves us curious and eager for answers.
We can look forward to seeing familiar faces again: Finney Shaw (Mason Thames), his sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw), their troubled father Terrence (Jeremy Davies), and the ghostly Robin (Miguel Mora) are all coming back to explore the darkness further. Plus, the terrifying Grabber, played by Ethan Hawke, will return, bringing his unique brand of chilling presence.
New actors are joining the cast as well: Demián Bichir, known for the memorable The Hateful Eight, and Arianna Rivas, who has been in Prom Dates and will soon be seen in the Jason Statham film A Working Man. What roles will they take on in this new tale of terror? That’s anyone’s guess… and it sends a shiver down the spine.
The Black Phone 2 promises more than just a follow-up; it’s a deeper dive into the unsettling. Get ready. The call is coming.
