Vestron Video, a video distribution company, has recently announced that it will be releasing a special steelbook version of Maximum Overdrive, a 1986 film directed by Stephen King, which will be exclusively available at Walmart stores. The release is scheduled for May 30th, and pre-orders are currently being accepted on Walmart’s website.
Maximum Overdrive is based on King’s short story Trucks and revolves around a group of survivors who are forced to fend for themselves against homicidal machines after a radiation storm caused by a comet. The group, led by diner cook Bill Robinson, played by Emilio Estevez, must find a way to escape the attacks of these sentient machines. Other cast members include Pat Hingle, Laura Harrington, Yeardley Smith, and Giancarlo Esposito.
The film was previously released as part of the Vestron Video Collector’s Series in 2018, which included special features such as audio commentaries by writer Tony Magistrale and actor and comedian Jonah Ray and interviews with members of the production crew.
It is unclear whether the steelbook release will also include these special features. Nevertheless, fans of Maximum Overdrive and collectors of steelbook releases may want to consider getting their hands on this exclusive Walmart edition.
