The short teaser trailer gives us glimpses of Madison Iseman, Ashley Moore, Brianne Tju, Ezekial Goodman, and Sebastian Amoruso, as they attend a wild graduation party.

The group of teens allow themselves to engage in wild partying that night which ultimately results in our cast of characters claiming the life of an innocent victim. With one teen proclaiming “It was an accident” and that “No one will really know what we did.”

We’re left with the final image of our teens getting a message from an unknown caller, that proclaims “I’m coming 4U”, followed by a clown face emoji.

The upcoming YA horror series is a modern retelling of the 1997 identically titled slasher film ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’, which told the story of a group of four friends who accidentally hit and kill a man on their graduation night. Rather than report the crime, the teenagers decide to dump the body and keep what happened that night a secret. A year later, they are stalked by a killer who knows what they did and is out for revenge. The original film starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr.

The movie was written by Kevin Williamson, who was coming off the success of ‘Scream’, which had been released the previous year.

Williamson had adapted the screenplay for ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ from Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel of the same name.

Duncan’s original novel also told the story of four friends who accidentally kill someone one night after partying in the mountains. Unlike in the film, the group accidentally runs over a young boy riding his bicycle that night. Following the accident they all make a pact to never tell anyone about their involvement in the boy’s death. A year later they all start to receive messages from an anonymous source, who knows of their secret.

Williamson kept the general theme of Duncan’s novel but added the slasher element to the story.

The new series stars Madison Iseman (Jumanji: The Next Level), Brianne Tju (Light as a Feather), Ezekiel Goodman, Ashley Moore (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping), Sebastian Amoruso, Bill Heck (Locke & Key), Fiona Rene (Stumptown), Cassie Beck (Connecting), Brooke Bloom (The Surrogate), Chrissie Fit (Pitch Perfect 2) and Sonya Balmores (Inhumans)

The first four episodes of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ are set to air on Amazon Prime on October 15, 2021, with the fifth episode airing the following Friday on October 22. Each new episode will continue to be released on Fridays, until the season finale airs on November 12.
