Warner Bros. Prioritizes Constantine and I Am Legend Sequels for Franchise Creation

Warner Bros. and Weed Road are bringing back two iconic properties, Constantine and I Am Legend, in order to create two separate franchises. According to Deadline, both projects are a top priority for the studios.

“We’re starting with two projects that are fun and very much Warners; the sequel to I Am Legend, with Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan, and the sequel to Constantine with Keanu Reeves that Francis Lawrence is going to direct,” says Akiva Goldsman, founder of Weed Road. “So I’m coming out of the gate fast. We’re doing (the Constantine sequel) with JJ Abrams, and Francis and Keanu and I have been pretty deep in the story-breaking stage.”

The original Constantine film, released in 2005, followed demon hunter John Constantine, played by Keanu Reeves, who has been to hell and back after surviving a suicide attempt. He is on a mission to earn enough goodwill to climb God’s stairway to heaven before he dies and is sent to Satan’s realm. While helping policewoman Angela Dodson investigate her identical twin’s apparent suicide, Constantine becomes embroiled in a supernatural plot involving both demonic and angelic forces. The film took liberties from the comic book, but they were welcomed and have stood the test of time.

The upcoming Constantine sequel, to be directed by Francis Lawrence, is expected to pick up where the first film left off, with Keanu Reeves reprising his role as John Constantine. The plot details have not yet been revealed, but fans are excited to see the return of their favorite demon hunter.

As for the I Am Legend sequel, it will feature Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan, though plot details are also under wraps. The original 2007 film followed Smith as Robert Neville, the last man on Earth, who must fight off the infected, mutant victims of a plague to survive.

Fans of both properties are eagerly anticipating the release of the sequels, and with Weed Road and Warner Bros. behind them, it’s sure to be a thrilling ride.
