The highly anticipated sequel, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, serves as a continuation of the beloved original Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II. Set to hit theaters on March 22nd, the film takes the cover story in the latest issue of Empire magazine, offering fans two different covers to choose from. One cover showcases the familiar faces of the Ghostbusters: Afterlife characters, Gary Grooberson and the Spengler family: Phoebe, Trevor, and Callie, portrayed by Paul Rudd, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon. The other cover features the iconic original Ghostbusters, Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore, played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson. Notably, Annie Potts also joins the lineup, reprising her role as Janine Melnitz, but this time, she’s suited up as a Ghostbuster! Check out the covers below.

The cast of Ghostbusters: Afterlife returns for the sequel, with Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace reprising their roles as Trevor and Phoebe. They are joined by Carrie Coon as their mother, Callie, and Paul Rudd as Gary Grooberson. The film also welcomes back William Atherton as Walter Peck, the EPA inspector from the first Ghostbusters film. Newcomers to the franchise include Celeste O’Connor as Trevor’s friend Lucky Domingo, Logan Kim as Phoebe’s friend Podcast, and Emily Alyn Lind, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, and James Acaster in undisclosed roles. Of course, the original Ghostbusters, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson, also make their return, potentially with more substantial roles this time around.

Initially, it was expected that Jason Reitman, the director of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, would helm Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. However, it was later revealed that Gil Kenan will be taking the directorial reins. Kenan is known for his work on Monster House, City of Ember, A Boy Called Christmas, the Poltergeist remake, and an episode of the Scream TV series.

Following the success of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Sony Pictures announced the sequel in April 2022, with Jason Reitman initially set to direct. However, Gil Kenan took over as director in December 2022. Principal photography began in March 2023 and wrapped up in June of the same year. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is set to be released on March 22, 2024.
