When the debut of Dark Night of the Scarecrow aired on CBS on October 24, 1981, viewers were horrified. This small made-for-television picture became a cult classic and launched a whole scarecrow-centric horror film subgenre. Dark Night of the Scarecrow 2 is the reappearance of the scarecrow, more than four decades after the first film.
The original Night of the Scarecrow was released on October 24, 1981, and was re-released as part of the Texas Frightmare Weekend 2010, which ran from April 29 to May 1.
Amber Wedding plays single mother Chris, while Aiden Shurr plays her son Jeremy. The two just relocated to Stubblefield County, a tiny rural hamlet. Jeremy develops a friendship with Carol Dines, the elderly woman who takes care of him after school. Chris comes upon an elderly, weathered scarecrow on her walk home from work one day. A flower is placed in its lapel by Chris, who whispers in its ear as he does so. When she makes a seemingly innocuous move, she unwittingly unleashes terrible evil from the past.

Frank De Felitta (author of Audrey Rose) directed and wrote the original film’s screenplay for the 1981 American made-for-TV suspense horror thriller Dark Night of the Scarecrow. In spite of the fact that CBS purchased Feigelson’s script for television, only modest alterations were made to the original screenplay.
