IDW Releases Dead Seas Miniseries

Being described as part Poseidon Adventure, part The Haunting of Hill House, the new mini-series, Dead Seas, from IDW publishing is a supernatural thriller that reunites New York Times best-selling author Cavan Scott (Star Wars: The High Republic) and fan-favorite artist Nick Brokenshire (Star Wars Adventures) for a tale of specters, prisoners, pirates, and disaster on the open ocean!

Dead Seas official synopsis:

Ghosts are real and dangerous. But they’re also valuable, their ectoplasm capable of curing countless diseases. There’s only one problem: harvesting the wonder drug can be just as deadly. Prisoner Gus Ortiz is willing to take the risk in return for a reduced sentence—anything to see his daughter again. All it will take is a few months at sea scraping ectoplasm off the walls of the Perdition, a floating prison containing the most vicious ghosts on Earth. Surrounded by dark waters, Gus soon realizes that angry spirits are the least of his worries.

The first issue of Dead Seas, the upcoming IDW original six-issue miniseries, follows Gus Ortiz, a cynical convict turned reluctant hero after he finds himself trapped on a sinking prison ship swarming with ghosts. Can he unite desperate criminals, pirates, and brutal guards as they try to escape a watery grave?

Issue #1 is scheduled to be released on December 21, 2022, and we at Horror Facts managed to get our hands on a copy of the first spine-tingling issue ahead of its official release.

This first issue of Dead Seas is all about laying the foundation for the future story. It starts by giving us a brief glimpse into Gus’s backstory, but not enough to know what brought him to this point. This reluctant hero’s full, tragic tale will likely be revealed as the story continues to play out.

Along with Gus, this first issue introduces us to all the other key players in this nautical thriller, and, similar to Gus, their true character is not yet revealed. At this point, it’s unclear who will prove to be a friend or who will turn out to be a foe.

For those coming into Dead Seas looking for adventure, don’t worry, the issue is not all about character development. In fact, this first issue wastes little time in bringing our cast of characters face-to-face with one of the entities that dwell within the ship – a creature that is not just a singular entity, but rather a twisted abomination plucked from your worst nightmares.

If that isn’t enough, the issue also establishes that man is just as deadly as the spirits that dwell upon the ship.

The first issue of Dead Seas leaves us with many questions, including who can Gus trust? Will he be able to escape this ship in one piece? Or will he find himself in Davy Jones’s locker before this nightmare is over?

If you’re a fan of Hellboy or B.P.R.D comics then Dead Seas is a must-read for you.

Make sure you pick up the first issue of Dead Seas available on December 21, 2022.
