Nothing marks the approaching Halloween season more than when Spirit Halloween stores begin to pop up all across North America. The pop-up stores bring in droves of customers who are looking to celebrate the spooky season in style.
Now, it appears that the seasonal retail company is looking to cement itself further into the mythology of Halloween, as ‘Spirit Halloween,’ a new film centering around the beloved pop-up store, is set to be released this October.
The upcoming film is being billed as a family/kid adventure movie, with the official plot revolving around three middle school friends – Jake, Carson, and Bo – who decide to spend Halloween night locked inside a mysterious Spirit Halloween store that unexpectedly opens up in a deserted strip mall. Trapped inside, the group of kids soon discover that the store is haunted by a spirit that can possess the creepy animatronic characters throughout the store. The kids must defeat the spirit before midnight or run the risk of becoming possessed themselves.
‘Spirit Halloween’ is produced by Noor Ahmed, president of Strike Back Studios, who, in a statement to Variety, had this to say about the film: “The script is very much inspired by some of my favorite kid adventure films growing up from ‘The Goonies,’ ‘Gremlins,’ ‘Monster Squad’ and so many great films made by Amblin Entertainment.”
The film is written by newcomer Billie Bates and directed by David Poag, who makes his directorial feature film debut.
‘Spirit Halloween’ is set to star Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future) and Rachael Leigh Cook (She’s All That), along with Brad Carter (Ozark), Marissa Reyes (Raven’s Home), Dylan Martin Frankel (Life & Beth), Jaiden J. Smith (Two Sentence Horror Stories), Donovan Colan (Chapelwaite), and Marla Gibbs (The Jeffersons).
The film has officially been completed and as previously noted is set to be released in October 2022.
