Catherine Zeta-Jones Joining Second Season of Prodigal Son

Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones will be joining the second season of the Fox drama, ‘Prodigal Son.’

The series follows former FBI Profiler Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne) as he helps the NYPD in catching killers. Malcolm has the ability to put himself in the mind of the killer, a skill that he inherited from his own father, Dr. Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen), the notorious serial killer known as “The Surgeon.”

The actress will debut in the second half of the season as Claremont Psychiatrics’ resident MD, Dr. Vivian Capshaw.

Early plot details reveal that Dr. Whitly will find himself assigned to the infirmary, where he will first meet Dr. Capshaw. Initially, he is tasked with menial jobs but, as he proves himself to be useful in treating patients, Capshaw will begin to see value in him.

Fox Entertainment president, Michael Thorn, spoke about the recent casting in an interview with TVLine, stating:

“An extraordinary talent, Catherine Zeta-Jones is the perfect foil for the brilliant Michael Sheen. I can’t wait to see these two greats go head-to-head in a season that is bound to raise the bar set by an outstanding season one.”

Along with Payne and Sheen, Prodigal Son features series regulars Lou Diamond Phillips, Halston Sage, Bellamy Young, Aurora Perrineau, Frank Harts, and Keiko Agena.

The second season of ‘Prodigal Son’ is set to debut on its new night, Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 9/8c.
