Cassandra ‘Elvira’ Peterson cast in Rob Zombie’s reboot of The Munsters

Cassandra Peterson is best known as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, her alter ego. Peterson, on the other hand, plays Barbara Carr, queen of reality, in filmmaker Rob Zombie’s remake of the 1960s TV sitcom The Munsters.  Mistress of the Dark, Cassandra Peterson, has been cast as Barbara Carr. Peterson, who is most known for her legendary role as Elvira, will trade in her black duds for a new pink plaid outfit.

On his Instagram page earlier today, Zombie announced the casting and gave us our first peek at the actress in character.

“Straight from the set of THE MUNSTERS is your first look at Barbara Carr, the #1 real estate agent in all of Mockingbird Heights,” ran the message accompanying the image. “Barbara is played by none other the CASSANDRA PETERSON. Yes, the Mistress of the Dark has joined the cast of THE MUNSTERS.”

In the 1980s, Peterson rose to stardom by portraying Elvira and hosting Fright Night, a weekly horror television show. Fans began flocking to the weekend programme for the presenter behind it all, a feisty, beautiful persona with wit and comic timing to match. Elvira’s reputation would soon take off, spawning a host of lucrative items including as costumes, action figures, Halloween décor, and more. Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, a 1988 feature picture, was her biggest hit at the start of her career. Peterson wore the low-cut outfit several more times throughout the years, as well as non-Elvira parts in films like 1985’s Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, where she co-starred in with her old friend Paul Reubens.

The original Munsters, about a family of friendly monsters, aired on CBS from 1964 to 1966.
