Two years ago, it was announced that Insidious and Insidious: Chapter 2 star Patrick Wilson would return to the franchise for Insidious 5 as both a cast member and director.
Insidious 5 has yet to go into production, despite Wilson’s claim that filming would begin in the spring of 2022. As a result, this could be a cause for concern—except that Sony has just announced that Insidious 5 will be released in theatres on July 7, 2023!
Madame Web, a picture inspired by Marvel Comics, was originally planned to be released in theatres on that date, but Sony has announced that they will now be releasing the film on October 6 instead.
That would have been a good release date for Insidious 5 as well, being just a few weeks out from Halloween; but, we’ll take having it three months early if we have to choose.
Insidious 5 will be directed by Patrick Wilson, and the screenplay will be written by Scott Teems, who also co-wrote Halloween Kills.
The idea for the film came from Leigh Whannell, who co-created the franchise with James Wan. The Lambert family, who appeared in the first two movies, plays an important role in this chapter of the plot.
