With an opening weekend of $50.16 million, Halloween Kills surpassed expectations. As reported by Deadline, the movie ranks as the 10th best October opener. The film’s day-and-date release on the Peacock streaming network is especially noteworthy since subscribers avoid theaters and the price tag of similar releases on competing streaming platforms.
Numerous theories have been put forward regarding the fact that the numbers exceeded the projected $30-$40 million number.
In spite of its strong numbers, however, there has been some criticism of the film’s tone and story among horror fans. In this iteration of the franchise, Halloween Kills confronts the machinations of mob mentality and introduces a level of brutality that has not been present in nearly every other installment.
