‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Heading to Netflix

Legendary Pictures upcoming ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ film will be skipping the theatres and heading directly to Netflix, as the streaming service has acquired the global rights to the newest installment in the series.

This latest film in the franchise, directed by David Blue Garcia, is said to be “another sequel” to Tobe Hooper’s original 1974 ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, which first introduced fans to the chainsaw-wielding, human skin mask wearing murderer Leatherface and his cannibalistic family.

Plot details on the new movie have been limited up to this point, other than the fact that the film is set after the original and will focus on an older-aged Leatherface. This new film is also said to ignore all the other films in the franchise, including the original sequel ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2’.

This won’t be the first time a film in the franchise has chosen to ignore the events of previous films, as 2013’s ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ rewrote the series and established itself as a new sequel to the original film.

‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ stars Elsie Fisher (Castle Rock), Nell Hudson (Victoria), Moe Dunford (Vikings), Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), Jacob Latimore (The Chi) and Alice Krige (Gretel and Hansel).

Stepping into the role of Sally Hardesty will be Olwen Fouéré. She replaces the late Marilyn Burns, who portrayed the “final girl” in the original 1974 film and later reprised the role in a brief cameo appearance in ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation’ where she can be seen being pushed on a gurney at the end of the film. Finally, assuming the role of Leatherface will be Mark Burnham, who is now the ninth actor to portray the character.

‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ is based on a screenplay by Chris Thomas Devlin and produced as a joint venture between Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues under their Bad Hombre production banner, along with Exurbia Films and Legendary Pictures. Kim Henkel, co-writer of the original ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ will also be serving as a producer on this new film.

No official release date on Netflix has been announced as of yet, but as more details on the film become available HorrorFacts will be sure to report them.
