We have some news about the new film Karli.
Back in 2013, concept designer Paul Gerrard caught the attention of the horror community when he attempted to breathe life back into the ‘Hellraiser’ film series with his two-minute-long pitch trailer of ‘Hellraiser: Origins.’
Despite receiving significant attention and positive reviews from the horror community, the film was never able to obtain the elusive green light and, by the following year, Gerrard had to regrettably announce that the project would not be happening.
The same statement made by Gerrard that told of the untimely fate of ‘Hellraiser: Origins’ also included a promise that he and his team would never be “tamed”; that they would be back “one way or another” and that, when they did return, they would return with a “vengeance.”
Well, horror fans, it appears that day has finally arrived.
Gerrard and Mike Clarke have teamed up to develop ‘Karli,’ a film that is being described as a “shocking and terrifying supernatural take on the home invasion genre.”
The film’s official synopsis is as follows:
After witnessing the brutal murder of her husband, Amanda (Jennifer K Preston) decides to start a new life with her teenage daughter Karli (Isabella Percival).
They leave their family home to set up a new business in the countryside – running a picturesque Bed & Breakfast far away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Before they have even have the chance to open, their lives are interrupted by the arrival of Kyle (Damien Ashley). He pleads to be given a room for one night due to his car breaking down close by. His request is accepted, but that one night turns into more.
Karli notices something isn’t quite right about their guest, who soon admits that he is on the run and desperately seeking asylum from a creature called The Unnamed and its terrifying horde that have been hunting him.
Is Kyle telling the truth or is it all an elaborate scam?
Karli promises to be a film that“harkens back to the days of the early 80’s horror, a terrifying descent into a very familiar darkness for Hellraiser fans.” Filled with “unsettling scenes” and “imagery,” it will keep you entranced throughout as it steadily builds to its spine-tingling climax.

The trailer for ‘Karli’ truly lives up to the title of being called a “teaser.”
The thirty-six second trailer features an unnerving pan across a hillside while a scattered horde of onlookers stares into the bed and breakfast. Before it ends, the trailer gives us a quick look at a beaten and bloody man who appears to yell the word “run” before a pair of hands grab him. But the true highlight of the trailer comes in the form of a brief glimpse at what one can only assume is The Unnamed, a creature that looks like it was ripped out of the pages of an H.P. Lovecraft story.
In an official statement by Clarke, he described ‘Karli’ as:
“A dark and menacing descent into a grim world unknown, this teaser trailer is just a small snippet of the horrors that await audiences – our antagonist literally unfolds.”
Gerrard also released the following statement about the upcoming film:
“This took an immense amount of work to create, but its’s paid off. We’ve created something truly original and horrific here. Yes, it will be compared to Hellraiser, but any horror film creator would be happy with that comparison – what a compliment!”
‘Karli’ is based off an original story by Gerrard, with Clarke providing the screenplay. The duo also serve as the film’s official directors.
Along with Percival, Preston, and Ashley, ‘Karli’ also stars Jake Francis, Lindy Pieri, Wendy Laurence James, Phil Gwilliam, Iona Mckeown, Kyle Brooks, David Faulkner, Rahula Armstrong, and Tony Moran as The Unnamed, with Luke Richards providing the creature’s voice.
If, after reading all this, you’re still not convinced that you need to see this movie, know that ‘Karli’ recently won the title of ‘Best Horror Film in Production’ at Grimmfest, further cementing the fact that this movie is guaranteed to be a must watch for all horror fans.
Although an official date for the film has not yet been announced, the team behind ‘Karli’ have announced that they intend to release a full-length trailer later in the year.
