Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake was released in theatres on April 5, 2013, and to commemorate its ninth anniversary, Alvarez posted a short video on Twitter the following day, revealing his personal collection of Polaroids taken on set.
The photos give fans a brief behind-the-scenes look at the ‘Evil Dead’ remake.
He then followed up this post by revealing that there was “an alt ending” to his ‘Evil Dead’ film where “Mia was taken by “the force” just like Bruce was at the end of the first film.
He ended the post by stating, “I could share it here if you want.” Just let me know and I’ll post the take. “
Well, fans of the film did just that. They spoke up and announced they wanted to see the original intended ending to Alvarez’s version of “Evil Dead.”
The director then shared a brief clip of “the force” hurtling through the cabin and coming upon Mia, who turns in time to release a blood-curdling scream.
In his post, he also revealed that he had received advice from none other than Sam Raimi himself, the man behind the “Evil Dead” franchise.
He states that Sam Raimi (wisely) pointed out that “after everything she’s been through, she deserves to live.” This prompted Alvarez to rewrite the ending, giving us the ending of Mia limping off into the woods after defeating her evil doppelgänger. Before revealing that the Naturom Demonto is still ingested, he leaves the door open for a sequel.
Going even further to reveal his original intended ending, Alvarez posted a page of what would have happened following “the force” coming upon Mia.
It appears that Mia was supposed to have been lifted into the air, where she would “explode,” causing “gallons of blood and guts” to fly everywhere.
It appears the intention was to always have the Naturom Demonto be a part of the scene, as what was left of Mia would have rained down onto it before the film came to a close.
