Earlier this week, Warner Bros. released the video, ‘Faith & Fear: The Conjuring Universe,’ which gives us a brief glimpse of what to expect from the next installment in ‘The Conjuring’ film universe: ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.’
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS9M-q8vFtc&w=560&h=315]The video starts by giving us the message that the intricate bloodline of dark stories in the ‘Conjuring’ universe chronicles where evil and the demonic intersect with our world. Spanning over 40 years and inspired by the real case files of world-renowned paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, the chronological look at the films in the ‘Conjuring’ universe begins with a nun in an abbey in Romania.
From here, we get a behind the scenes look at of the seven films in the ‘Conjuring’ universe, including interviews with some of the cast and crew, with the last couple minutes being dedicated to the upcoming third ‘Conjuring’ film.
From the video, we learn that the upcoming ‘Conjuring’ film will be about the real life, 1981 trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, who was charged with manslaughter for killing his landlord, Alan Bono. Demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren became involved in the case due to Johnson claiming to be possessed by the same demon that the Warrens helped exorcise from 11-year-old David Glatzel.
James Wan, who directed the first two ‘Conjuring’ films and is producing this third installment, stated that, for this film:
“I really wanted ‘The Conjuring 3’ to get away from the haunted house setup of the first two ‘Conjuring’ films. It should be more on a whole different level, something that we’ve never explored before in the ‘Conjuring’ world.”
Actors, Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, who play Ed and Lorraine Warren in the ‘Conjuring’ films, also spoke in regards to the plot of the film:
“The trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, this was an internationally-renowned case,” said Vera Farmiga, “which was the first time in the history of law in the United States that…”
Patrick Wilson continued with “…that demonic possession was used as a reason for committing manslaughter. You’re in for a much different ride than you’ve been on in other ‘Conjuring’ films.”
‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’ is scheduled to be released on June 4th, 2021.
