The acclaimed documentary Orchestrator of Storms: The Fantastique World of Jean Rollin, directed by Dima Ballin and Kat Ellinger, will be released exclusively on ARROW on February 14, 2023 in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. Orchestrator of Storms is a documentary that goes above and beyond the typical filmic analysis of Rollin’s career and style, giving horror and fantasy film fans a chance to learn more about the work of a long-forgotten maestro.
On February 3, the month of love kicks off with two documentaries by Paul Joyce on the American independent film scene: Robert Altman: Giggle and Give In (US/UK/CA/IRE) and Made in the USA (US/UK/CA/IRE). Altman, Elliott Gould, Shelley Duvall, assistant director Alan Rudolph, and screenwriter Joan Tewkesbury all make appearances in Joyce’s biopic on Altman, which was first released in 1996. This biopic serves to not only provide a captivating overview of Altman’s life and career but also provides a lens into the world of independent film in the late 20th century
The celebration of a filmmaker’s voice begins with Charles Band: The Puppetmaster. Charles Band is a writer, producer, and director who has been active in the genre cinema industry since the 1970s. His films had a significant impact on the rise of home video in the 1980s. Charles Band’s works, especially the Puppetmaster series, are often noted for their creativity and willingness to push boundaries, which makes them stand out from other filmmakers in the industry.
From time-traveling Trancers to a horrifying Tourist Trap to a reimagined Doctor Strange movie featuring Jeffrey Combs as a somewhat different sorcerer supreme, and much more, Charles Band: The Puppetmaster collects a wide range of the director’s craziest and most enjoyable work. In Charles Band: The Puppetmaster, viewers can witness the full range of this cult film auteur’s eclectic output, from the low-budget creature features and B-movie cult classics of the 1980s to his more recent exploration of horror, fantasy, science fiction, and all things strange.

On February 6th, when you’re out buying your beloved a new gadget, ARROW will upload Killer Tech (UK/IRE/US/CA). Everyone wants the most recent technology, but in Killer Tech, seeing a screen means hearing someone scream. Killer Tech is the newest, most thrilling thriller that tells the story of a young couple whose lives are thrown into chaos when they discover that their new tech gadgets have been infected with a deadly virus. As the virus begins to spread rapidly, the couple must race against time to find a way to save themselves and the world.
On February 10, the Los Angeles-based cult film screening series Cinematic Void will take over the ARROW movie universe. Horror, eurotrash, exploitation, and gonzo action are just some of the subgenres represented at the American Cinematheque’s Void screening room. CV film programmer Jim Branscome shares his tastes in the anthology Cinematic Void Selects. Branscombe has assembled a list of films that is sure to please even the most ardent of cult film devotees thanks to his keen eye for risky and provocative filmmaking, including works by newcomers to the industry, landmarks of the genre, obscure gems that have somehow escaped mainstream attention, and other gems.
On February 14, the living dead and the undead come together to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Two vampire orphans from the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the United States: Teenage girls, blind during the day but hungry for blood at night, prowl the streets. In the British/Irish/American horror film Zombie Lake, German soldiers who were killed by the French Resistance and put into a lake after the war have returned to the small French village where they were first seen. These undead soldiers now rise from the lake, reanimated and hungry for human flesh.
Part IV of Jean Rollin’s The Fantastique Collection (UK/IRE/US) is released on the same day. The Fantastique Collection Part IV is the last book from Jean Rollin, who is the master of making erotic nightmare fuel. It is led by a new and exclusive documentary from filmmakers Kat Ellinger and Dima Ballin called Orchestrator of Storms: The Fantastique World of Jean Rollin.
On February 17 we will look at the work of the French Hitchcock, Claude Chabrol (UK/IRE/US). Over the course of five decades, Claude Chabrol successfully navigated the ever-changing cinematic waters, producing over fifty films that are now considered some of the most subtly devastating examples of their genre. The films of Chabrol are sardonic, provocative, and frightening all at once, and they do so with a sharpness of clarity and honesty that is almost surgical. Chabrol drew inspiration from directors like Fritz Lang, Alfred Hitchcock, and Jean Renoir, but his style was uniquely his own and has gone on to inspire the work of directors like Bong Joon-ho, James Gray, and Dominik Moll. His films have endured because of his comical, unprejudiced perspective on life and the fact that he never condemns the people he portrays onscreen. If you haven’t watched any of Chabrol’s films before, you’re in for a treat.
On the 24th of February, King of Karate: The Sonny Chiba Collection (UK/IRE/US/CA) will be released to the general public. Brace yourselves for some quick and furious karate action with the King of Karate, Sonny Chiba. Whether you know Shinichi Chiba from the 1970s martial arts boom, when his lethal mastery of karate, judo, and kenpo made him an in-demand anti-hero to legions of fans, or you only know him from the True Romance triple-bill with Clarence and Alabama, you’ll find plenty of bruising badassery in King of Karate: The Sonny Chiba Collection.
As the shortest month of the year comes to an end on the 28th, Millionaires’ Express (US/CA) is the perfect way to celebrate. In Millionaires’ Express, martial arts guru Sammo Hung (Heart of Dragon) brings East and West crashing together in a stunning fashion. Sammo plays Ching Fong-tin, a reformed criminal with a crazy plan to help his impoverished village of Hon Sui: he plans to blow up a brand new luxury express train coming from Shanghai so that its super-rich passengers will have no choice but to spend money in Hon Sui. But he’s not the only one who’s keeping an eye on the passengers’ wallets; a group of bank robbers headed in the direction of the three Japanese samurai guarding a priceless map are also on board. There will be as many bullets as there are fists flying, but will Hon Sui Town still be standing in the end?
