A R RATING PLACED ON ‘FIRESTARTER’ REBOOT

According to filmratings.com, this week the film received an R rating, specifically for “violent content”-for its remake of Stephen King’s classic 1980 novel.

Director Keith Thomas and screenwriter Scott Teems of Blumhouse Productions and Universal Studios’ movie will tell the story of a girl with pyrokinetic powers (who can make things burst into flames), who is pursuing a secret government agency bent on using her abilities for evil.

As Charlie McGee, Ryan Kiera Armstrong is portrayed by Ryan Efron who plays her father, Andy McGee, Sydney Lemmon who plays her mother Vicky, Michael Greyeyes who plays the master assassin Rainbird, and Gloria Reuben who plays another character yet to be determined.

Unlike the first film, Thomas said this reboot will include elements from King’s bestseller that were absent from the first installment. “There’s a lot of stuff in the book that isn’t in the original film,” he says. “There’s stuff in there that we’re using.”

In this film, the director explained, “you’re going to see all the stuff Charlie can do–which is cool and exciting. And if we do it right, you should come out of it emotional.”

Drew Barrymore, David Keith, Martin Sheen, George C. Scott and David Keith star in the original Firestarter film, directed by Mark Lester. King’s Constant Readers did not like the movie, and it only managed $19 million at the box office on a $12-million budget.
